Product Introduction

1. Overview

DANUBE’s Automatic Onion Drying & Powder Production Line provides a complete processing solution for turning fresh onions into dehydrated onion slices, flakes, dices, or onion powder.

The line integrates onion peeling and root cutting, slicing or dicing, air drying, continuous drying, and packaging into a streamlined production process. For onion powder production, the dried onion is further processed through grinding and powder packaging.

The equipment configuration can be customized according to the onion variety, product size, target moisture content, production capacity, and factory conditions.

2. Onion Processing and Drying Flow

Onion Drying Production Line

The standard processing flow for dried onion products is:

Fresh Onions → Peeling & Root Cutting → Washing →Slicing/Dicing → Surface Dewatering → Continuous Drying → Packaging

For onion powder production:

Fresh Onions → Peeling & Root Cutting → Washing →Slicing → Surface Dewatering → Continuous Drying → Grinding → Powder Packaging

The dried onion can be produced in different forms, including slices, flakes, dices, or powder, depending on the required final product.

3. Main Equipment

Onion Drying Production Line

All food-contact components are constructed with food-grade SUS304 stainless steel to meet global hygienic standards.

1. Onion Peeling & Head Removing Machine

Combines onion peeling with root and top removal. The peeling system uses air to blow away the outer skin without unnecessary cutting into the onion, while gentle handling reduces surface damage and helps minimize spoilage.

2. Onion Bubble Washer

Employs high-pressure air bubbles and water sprays to thoroughly wash peeled onions, removing residual surface soil and skin fragments prior to cutting.

3. Onion Slicing & Dicing Machine

Cuts washed onions into uniform slices or dices with adjustable thickness . High-speed stainless steel rotary blades deliver clean cuts without squeezing out onion juice, ensuring consistent piece sizing for even drying.

4. Onion Air Drying Machine

Removes surface moisture from onion pieces before the main drying stage, reducing the moisture load on the main dryer and helping save up to 20% of drying energy.

5. Onion Mesh Belt Dryer(Core System)

Features adjustable temperature controls and variable-speed mesh belts, allowing drying conditions to be precisely adjusted throughout the process. This helps reduce the risk of browning and scorching caused by excessive heat while maintaining the natural color and quality of the dried onion.

6. Heat Pump Drying Room (Optional Alternative)

Provides energy-efficient batch drying for smaller capacity requirements or multi-vegetable processing. Serves as a flexible alternative configuration based on factory footprint and budget.

7. Onion Grinding Machine

Grinds dried onion into powder according to the required particle size, providing a further processing option for customers producing onion powder.

8. Onion Powder Packaging Machine

Automatically measures and fills onion powder into bags or other packaging containers, with packing weight and packaging specifications adjustable according to production requirements.

4. Flexible Drying System Configurations

To meet different production requirements and factory conditions, the onion drying line can be configured with two drying options:

Option A: Continuous Mesh Belt Dryer (Standard Configuration)

Mesh belt dryer

The standard choice for continuous commercial production. Sliced or diced onions are evenly conveyed through the drying chamber on a perforated SUS304 stainless steel mesh belt. A PLC control system manages the drying process, while temperature and belt speed can be adjusted according to the product and drying requirements. Controlled drying helps reduce the risk of browning and scorching while achieving the required final moisture content.

Option B: Batch Heat Pump Drying Room (Alternative Solution)

Industrial Drying Room

A flexible option for batch production or facilities processing different types of products. Prepared onion pieces are placed on SUS304 stainless steel trays or trolleys and dried under PLC-controlled drying conditions. The system can be configured according to batch size, production requirements, and available factory space.

Engineers configure the appropriate drying system and parameters according to onion variety, slice thickness, initial and target moisture content, production capacity, and factory conditions. For more details, see our [Mesh Belt Dryer] and [Heat Pump Drying Room] product pages.

5. Product Options

The onion drying line can be configured to produce different dehydrated onion products according to customer requirements.

Dried Onion: Dried slices, flakes (kibbled onions), or dices can be produced according to the required product size.

Onion Powder: Dried onions can be further processed through a grinding machine and powder packaging machine to produce onion powder with the required particle size.

This configuration allows the line to support both dried onion products and onion powder production.

7. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What final products can this onion drying line produce?

A: The line can produce dehydrated onion slices, flakes (kibbled onions), or dices. For powder production, the dried onion can be further processed through a grinding machine and powder packaging system.

Q2: How does the drying system help maintain onion color and quality?

A: The mesh belt dryer provides controlled drying conditions, with adjustable temperature and belt speed. This helps reduce the risk of excessive heating, browning, and scorching while maintaining the natural color and quality of the dried onion.

Q3: Mesh Belt Dryer vs. Heat Pump Drying Room: Which drying system is suitable for my production?

A: The continuous Mesh Belt Dryer is suitable for continuous commercial production with higher and more consistent output requirements. The Heat Pump Drying Room is a flexible option for batch production or facilities that process different products. The appropriate system can be selected according to production capacity, batch requirements, and factory conditions.

Q4: Do you offer factory layout design and overseas engineering support?

A: Yes. We can provide factory layout design, customized equipment manufacturing, shipping support, and overseas installation, commissioning, and operator training according to the project requirements.
